THE ARCHITECT

Mel Tan is the founder, creative director, and architect of the Joy Hysteric world.

A creative jack of all trades — stylist, producer, curator, marketer, taste-maker, brand builder, and more — she has spent the past two decades building a community and reputation around creativity, individuality, and taste. Mel single-handedly built the original Joy Hysteric boutiques that defined Queensland’s high-end fashion landscape in the 2000s, introducing a generation to cult Australian and international designers.

Today, her practice spans fashion, art, interiors, and brand — disciplines united by an instinctive, emotional approach to storytelling. She shapes atmosphere and identity through design, content, and experience — translating aesthetics into feeling, ideas into strategy, and brand into voice.

Through Joy Hysteric, Mel continues to blur the boundaries between creation and curation; between the visual and the visceral. Her work sits at the intersection of taste and storytelling — curating not just aesthetics, but worlds. Joy Hysteric is her life’s work and passion — her creative universe made tangible.
